​  William ("Bill") Courson was director and principal instructor of the New Jersey Institute of Ayurveda, in Montclair, New Jersey and is currently Dean of Academic Affairs and Institutional Development and a faculty member at the Sai Ayurvedic College of Miami, Florida as well as Dean of Students and faculty member at the Bodhananda Vedic Institute School of Ayurveda in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

A retired corporate and managerial accountant, he has been a lifelong student and of and writer on the themes of traditional healing, alternative and complementary medicine (focusing on Ayurveda and Homeopathy), spirituality and health, and eastern and western alchemy.

 

In addition to his practice at Montclair Ayurveda in New Jersey, Bill consults in Miami, Florida and in southwestern Michigan.  He is a certified advanced herbalist with special interests in the fields of Ayurveda as well as traditional western Medicine (TWM) and energetic healing through 'subtle therapies' including chakra, color and crystal therapies and has authored numerous professional and popular articles in these fields. Bill is a Reiki Master/Teacher in the traditional Usui lineage. He has taught professional level courses in all of these disciplines, and most recently was invited to train aspiring physicians and others in Reiki at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Medical School.

Bill holds diplomas and certifications in advanced (Western) herbal medicine, Bach flower essence therapy, a Diploma in Homeopathy from the School of Natural Health Sciences, a Diploma in Ayurvedic Science from the New Jersey Institute of Ayurveda and a Bachelor of Vedic Studies (Ayurveda) degree from the Sai Ayurvedic College of Miami. He was awarded the the Doctor of Ayurveda degree from the latter institution.

He is a Level III ("Ayurvedic Doctor") professional member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, and was active on that organization's Educational Standards Advisory Subcommittee, and was invited to participate in the Indian government-sponsored Ayurvedic USA Advisory Council. He is a member of the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals in North America (AAPNA) and of the American Association of Ayurvedic Physicians (AAAP) , as well as a Board member, and a mmeber of the Council on Ayurvedic Credentialing (CAC).

He is on the Editorial Advisory Committee of the Ayurveda Journal of Health (the only peer-reviewed professional Ayurvedic journal in the western world) and the International Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

He makes his home in Montclair, New Jersey where he is active in a number of professional, civic and charitable organizations.
